Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Arkansas State (7-3, 0-0 SBC) held Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-7, 0-0 SWAC) out of reach with an early six-run inning and five doubles in the game to win 11-3 Friday night at Slayton Family Field-Tomlinson Stadium.

Lane Walton logged the first double in the opening inning, but was left stranded, with the score staying level after the first inning. A-State exploded in the second inning after Red Wolves starting pitcher Chase Richter went three up, three down. Back-to-back walks to lead off the inning put Arkansas State in the position to strike first, which they did with a single to the outfield by Kaden Amundson. Ashton Quiller and Walton followed it up with singles of their own, with Walton’s sending two home. Quiller touched home on a double-steal play, and Evan Griffis then swung an RBI-double before later crossing home on a throwing error for the 6-0 lead.

The Golden Lions scored on a solo home run to left field in the top of the third inning, but the Red Wolves scored two more on a double to left field by Patrick Engskov, then added another run in the fourth on an error to set the score at 9-1.

Pine Bluff worked two runs in during the sixth inning off a sac fly and an RBI-single. A-State responded in the seventh with their own sac fly and an RBI-ground out in the eighth with the bases loaded. Andrew Allen commanded the final three innings on the mound, allowing no hits, striking out two and only allowing one runner off of a hit by pitch.

Win: Chase Richter (2-1)
Loss: Joe King (0-1)
Save: Andrew Allen (1)
