Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Service to the community paid off for the Brookland Public Schools Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program this week, as the City of Brookland made a donation to the unit following their help with a recent city event.

The district announced the contribution on Facebook Jan. 18, thanking Mayor Jones and city employees for their support of the student program.

According to Assistant Superintendent Chris Moss, the donation consisted of a $400 check. Moss told JRN that the funds were a direct result of JROTC students helping city staff with their recent Christmas party.

He explained that Superintendent George Kennedy allowed the city to use a school cafeteria for the gathering, and the JROTC cadets stepped up to assist with parking and other duties during the event.

“I just think their employees were impressed with the students and wanted to do something to thank them,” Moss said.

While the specific use for the funds has not yet been decided, Moss noted that acts like these highlight the positive relationship between the municipality and the school district. He said sustaining that partnership was a priority for Kennedy when he became superintendent in 2025.

“We work together on a variety of issues, and it’s almost always positive, whether it’s working together to assist with the car line, which is always a challenge early in the year. They’re really good about sending officers to help with navigating and moving traffic around,” Moss said. “If things happen like… we’re working on some type of landscaping or facility issue, we’ll work together on that a lot.”

Overall, Moss said the school district is blessed to have such a cooperative relationship and plans to maintain it well into the future.
