Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – The Foundation of Arts (FOA) and the City of Jonesboro are calling on local artists to assist with beautification efforts across the city.

The city partnered with the FOA’s Public Arts Commission to ask artists to paint traffic signal cabinets across the city. Some cabinets have already been painted as part of previous beautification efforts and will be repainted, while others will be painted for the first time.

Rebecca Orr, vice chair of the FOA’s Public Arts Commission, said a call for artists to paint the cabinets will be issued each quarter in 2026, with the goal of having them all completed by the end of the year.

“This is really a part of beautification, bringing art to the community, beautifying the community through art,” Orr said. “The traffic cabinets are just a great way to do it because they’re spread throughout the city.”

Artists will submit their artwork to the FOA’s Public Arts Commission. Orr said proposals must be family-friendly. Applications must be submitted by Jan. 30.

After the application window closes, the commission will meet in February to review submissions and assign approved artists a traffic signal cabinet. All boxes must be completed by the end of March, Orr said.

She added that after an artist has been assigned a cabinet, they can begin painting any time they wish, but when they start, they will have two weeks to complete it. Approved artists will receive a $100 gift card to purchase paint.

“Anytime within February, March, end of March, it can be done. But when they start the art, we want them to have it finished in two weeks,” Orr said. “That’s just helping us know that it is actually going to get finished.”

“Public arts is an important part of the beautification of a city,” Orr said. “We hope that the artists in our community will reach out and give their time to make our community a more beautiful place.”
