Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – With many kids set to trick-or-treat tonight, the City of Jonesboro provided some safety tips for both parents/guardians and children.

In a Facebook post, the City provided five safety tips for kids trick-or-treating, which are listed below:

Keep Kids Visible:

Ensure kids are wearing light or bright-colored costumes or add reflective tape to bags and/or clothing. In addition, be sure to carry flashlights and glowsticks.

Walk Safely:

Make sure kids stay on crosswalks at street corners and on sidewalks. If no sidewalk is available, ensure kids walk facing traffic and stay near the edge of the road.

“Be extra careful around driveways—cars may pull in or out without noticing trick-or-treaters,” the post said.

Be Aware of Strangers:

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to remind kids to never enter a stranger’s home or vehicle, even if kids are invited inside for candy. Trick-or-treat in familiar neighborhoods and make sure kids only approach homes with the lights on.

The post encouraged kids that if something feels off, walk away from the area and tell a trusted adult.

In addition, the Jonesboro Police Department and Craighead County Sheriff’s Department released lists of addresses of Level 3 and 4 registered sex offenders, which are to be avoided. Click here for the list inside city limits, and here for the county-wide list.

Exercise Caution with Candy:

Before kids dig into their sweets, an adult should inspect it beforehand. If anything is not sealed, has been tampered with, or looks suspicious, discard it. Homemade treats should be avoided unless they come from someone you know and trust.

Drive Carefully:

Drivers are asked to slow down and stay alert, especially in neighborhoods where trick-or-treaters are out.

“Kids can be unpredictable and may cross the street mid-block or between parked cars, so stay vigilant,” the post said.
