Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Family Crisis Center celebrated the grand opening of its Sexual Assault Support Services center on Wednesday afternoon.

The center has space to perform forensic exams, as well as provide various other advocacy, support and follow-up services. It will also take walk-up clients. It has been operational since October 2025; however, Family Crisis Center leadership said they wanted to celebrate the grand opening in April due to it being Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Since the center’s opening, it has provided 14 forensic exams, supported eight hospital-based exams, responded to 71 sexual assault hotline calls, and rendered 423 supportive services to 41 adults.

The center’s services have been part of the Family Crisis Center’s operations since 2017; however, the nonprofit’s executive director, Casey Kidd, said the goal was always to have it as a standalone building. The Family Crisis Center is a local nonprofit that serves and advocates for domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking victims.

“This was the goal from the start, because it’s the best practice for the center to be in a standalone facility, and so we are so excited that we were able to make that come to fruition,” Kidd said.

Kidd noted that the center’s downtown Jonesboro location will allow it to better serve people, due to its close proximity to its law enforcement and community partners. Currently, the center is staffed by three people: a coordinator, an advocate, and a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), with plans to hire another part-time advocate position soon.

During Wednesday’s ceremony, Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver issued a proclamation declaring April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Jonesboro.

“I can’t think of a better place to do it [issue the proclamation], than right here on the steps of the foundation,” he said.

The center is located at 511 W. Monroe Ave.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, sexual violence, and/or human trafficking, contact the center’s 24/7 crisis hotline to speak with an advocate at 870-933-9449 or visit the Family Crisis Center website for more information.
