Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 19, 2025 – A Jonesboro man faces domestic battering charges after police said he hit his son’s mother and attempted to strike the child, prompting the woman to fire a gun in the air to protect the child.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause on Sept. 19 to charge 30-year-old Demarius Deshawn Munn with second-degree domestic battering and third degree domestic battery. This was after Jonesboro police responded to a shots fired call around 7 p.m. the previous night on Meadowbrook Road.

According to the affidavit, officers met with the victim, who said her son’s father, Munn, hit her, and during the fight, the son tried to intervene to protect her, but Munn attempted to strike the child.

The victim said she then fired a gun in the air to scare Munn and protect her son. A neighbor confirmed this, saying they saw Munn punching the victim and assaulting the child.

The affidavit said the victim had a knot on her forehead and a scratch on her jaw, while the child had scratches on his chest and face, as well as a bloody nose.

Choosing to have a public defender present for the purpose of setting a bond, Fowler gave Munn a temporary bond of $75,000 cash/surety. Munn is also ordered to have no contact with the victim and must wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Munn’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 30.
