Jonesboro, AR – Jonesboro Right Now – A Jonesboro man is facing felony charges after police said an argument over personal belongings escalated into an armed confrontation involving his ex-girlfriend and her child.

District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause Sept. 14 to charge 22-year-old Tyrek Mehki Coleman with the following offenses:

  • Aggravated assault on a family or household member (Class D felony)
  • First-degree endangering the welfare of a minor (Class D felony)
  • Third-degree assault on a family or household member (Class C misdemeanor)
  • Disorderly conduct (Class C misdemeanor)

According to the probable cause affidavit, on Sept. 13, Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to an apartment complex regarding a domestic disturbance involving a firearm.

The victim said while inside the apartment, the two argued and Coleman threw food at her. The victim exited the apartment into the parking lot, where Coleman followed her, became physical, and drew a handgun, pointing it directly at her.

The affidavit noted that the victim’s child was seated next to her in a carrier at the time the firearm was pointed. A witness also told police she observed the physical assault and Coleman pointing the firearm at the victim.

Following Coleman’s arrest, officers conducted a search and located a loose handgun round in his pocket. Officers also recovered the handgun matching the description provided by the victim.

Coleman is being held on a $35,000 cash/surety bond and was ordered to have no contact with the victim. He is scheduled for his next court appearance on Oct. 26.
