Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – The Jonesboro Police Department released more information Monday after one of its officers was attacked by a K9 over the weekend.

According to a news release from JPD, police were attempting to make a vehicle stop on S. Culberhouse Road on Sunday morning. The driver left the scene of the original stop and committed several traffic violations, police said.

Because the vehicle was registered to an owner on Nisbett Street, police went to that location to get more information, during which they saw the vehicle initially pulled over for the traffic stop parked behind an apartment, the news release said.

The driver was identified as Jerry Corenealious Brown, who witnesses said they saw running away from the area. He was later located, arrested, and charged with fleeing, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, failure to appear, reckless driving, and having an out-of-town warrant.

After Brown’s arrest, police conducted an article search in the area. K9 Rocky, who had been searching the area, scaled a fence. Rocky’s handler, Officer Zach Hobbs, lifted the dog over the fence back to his side when the animal was “potentially scraped and yelped” and began biting Hobbs.

An Arkansas State Police trooper helped with restraining Rocky. Hobbs received multiple bite wounds to his arms and upper right thigh, police said, and he sought further treatment from an area hospital.

The release added that Hobbs and Rocky were reunited Monday morning, and that Rocky was “happy to see him.”
