Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 15, 2025 – A Jonesboro woman faces a felony charge after police said she left her child in a hot car.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Jonesboro police officers were sent to an address on Pacific Road to assist EMS on Sept. 13. Officers were told before they arrived that EMS was caring for a 1-year-old who had possibly overheated due to being inside a vehicle.

“Before officers could arrive to the residence they were advised that EMS was taking the victim to a local hospital. Officers arrived at the hospital and were made aware that the victim had an internal temperature of 102.9 degrees,” the affidavit said.

Officers contacted 21-year-old Alexia Murdie, the victim’s mother. Murdie told officers that she and the victim were playing outside for approximately two hours before the victim overheated.

The affidavit said officers then spoke with the child’s father, who told them Murdie had previously been criminally banned from his home, and that she had been parked outside of his residence for some time the day of the incident.

The affidavit said the child’s father received a photo of the child, in which the victim was sitting inside Murdie’s vehicle and “appeared to be red in the upper face and torso.”

Officers went to the incident location on Pacific Road and spoke with a witness, who told police Murdie came to the residence to “start a fight.” The witness received a text from Murdie asking to come inside the child’s father’s residence, because the child was hot.

Later, around noon, the affidavit said the witness saw Murdie sitting in her vehicle in the parking lot with the windows down, and later that afternoon, knocked on the door to the residence she is banned from because the victim was overheating.

The affidavit said the victim had been left in a vehicle that was not running for around four hours, while it was 90 degrees or hotter outside. Officers arrested Murdie at the hospital.

On Sept. 15, Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Murdie with one count of endangering the welfare of a minor – 1st degree, and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass.

Murdie’s bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety, and she was ordered to have no contact with the child. Her next court date is Oct. 30.
