Lake City, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – Citizens of Lake City will soon have an opportunity to dispose of their larger, bulkier items for free.

The city’s Clean Sweep, which is scheduled for April 27-May 1, is hosted every spring. During this event, larger items, such as tires, refrigerators, and more are picked up. This is at no cost to citizens and is available for anyone living in the city limits of Lake City.

“We offer during the year, pickup for $15 for five items, but then once a year we do it for free,” said Lake City Mayor Cameron Tate. “It’s just to allow everybody to try to get rid of some of their junk and clean the town up.”

Tate said roughly one-third of the city’s homes use the service, resulting in 350-400 homes being served.

Those wanting their items picked up are asked to have them placed by the road by April 27, as Tate said this prevents crews from having to backtrack. Crews will work the rest of that week to pick up items.

There are a few rules regarding item pickup:

  • Brush and limbs must be separated from other items to be picked up
  • Any paint cans must be filled with dirt
  • Only two tires per household
  • No loose garbage
  • No shingles
  • Compressors must be removed from refridgerators

“It’s just to try to keep our neighborhoods clean. That’s the main goal of it,” Tate said. “[If] you have stuff sitting outside you don’t want, you can throw it out there and get rid of it.”
