Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug. 18, 2025 – A man wanted in another state is now facing a first-degree battery charge in Jonesboro after police said he ran over another man with a vehicle, nearly severing the victim’s foot.

In the early morning of Aug. 16, Jonesboro police officers responded to a hotel on Gilmore Drive for a man who had been hit by a vehicle.

According to an affidavit, officers found the man with a severe injury to his foot, saying it was “nearly amputated at the ankle.” Roel Ibanez, 20, of Edinburg, TX, was determined to be involved in the incident during the on-scene investigation.

Witness told police Ibanez had been removed from the victim’s vehicle. After this, he took the victim’s wallet and threw it into a nearby field, causing the victim to get out of the vehicle to try to get it back.

Ibanez got back into the victim’s vehicle and reportedly tried to leave the scene. The affidavit said the victim tried to stop him, but Ibanez ran over the victim with the vehicle, causing the foot injury.

The affidavit said Ibanez then drove the vehicle 100 yards before abandoning it and running on foot, leaving the victim behind. The victim was taken to the hospital, and Ibanez was arrested later in the day.

Ibanez appeared before Craighead County District Judge Tommy Fowler on Aug. 18, who found probable cause to charge Ibanez with first-degree battery with the purpose of permanently disfiguring, amputating, or disabling, and leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury.

Fowler noted that Ibanez is currently wanted in Indiana for another crime and had been on probation in Texas. Because of that, and because he is from out of state, Ibanez was given a $100,000 cash-only bond. He was also ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Ibanez’s next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 30.
