Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Michigan sex offender is being held on a $950,000 cash/surety bond after police said he failed to register in Arkansas while residing in Jonesboro.

Michael Nelson Murawski, 45, of Lenox, is currently registered in Michigan as a Tier 3 sex offender.

Arkansas law says that when an offender moves to the state and is required to register in another state, the offender must report to the appropriate law enforcement agency any home or temporary domicile in which they will reside for five or more consecutive days.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Murawski had been occupying a 2002 Silver Volvo with a Michigan license plate at the time of his arrest. Using the Flock Safety system, a network of automated license plate readers (ALPRs), police determined the vehicle had been operated in Jonesboro since April 9. Since that time, Murawski has not made any attempts to contact the Jonesboro Police Department and complete his registration as a sex offender in Arkansas.

The Craighead County Sheriff’s Office jail roster shows that Murawski was arrested on April 27. He appeared two days later in front of District Judge David Boling, who found probable cause to charge him with a class C felony: Failure to register – failure to comply with reporting requirements.

When determining bond conditions, Boling noted that Murawski had an outstanding warrant in Michigan and had been arrested several times for similar charges. He added that Murawski had no ties to Craighead County. Because of this, Murawski will have to wear a GPS ankle monitor upon release.

Murawski’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 26. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and fines up to $10,000.
