Jonesboro, AR – JonesboroRightNow.com – A Jonesboro man is behind bars on a felony aggravated assault charge after police said he attacked a woman during an argument that left the victim unable to breathe.

On June 14, Jonesboro police officers responded to a residence in north-central Jonesboro for a domestic disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, they found two subjects still arguing, being separated by other people. Officers intervened for further investigation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the victim told officers that Richard Alton Bogan had been drinking and began grabbing all of his things, telling her he was leaving. While arguing, Bogan rushed to the victim and tackled her to the ground. He then began choking her with both hands while on top of her.

The victim said that she grabbed Bogan’s dreads to defend herself, but he was choking her to the point of not being able to breathe or talk until he was pulled off of her.

Officers noted that the victim had scratch marks on her left cheek and scratches and swelling on her neck. As a result, Bogan was arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.

Bogan appeared the next day before District Judge David Boling, who found probable cause to charge Bogan with one class D felony: Aggravated assault on a family or household member.

Noting this was Bogan’s 13th arrest and that he has had multiple violent offenses since 2010, Boling gave Bogan a $150,000 cash/surety bond. He was also ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Bogan’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 30. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.

This story has been updated to include Bogan’s full name.
