I was watching the news recently and the reporter was asking people why we celebrate the 4th of July and what the significance of 1776 was. Some of the people he asked could answer either question. I was shocked. If you are an American, how can you not know the answer to those two questions. The 4th of July is the date we celebrate America’s independence from Great Britain. 1776 is the year we became independent from Great Britain. The truly saddening responses made me wonder are people’s ideals of what being an American is and of America changing? So i thought I’d ask you. What does being an American mean to you? I like what former President Ronald Reagan said about being an American.
