Get Your Phil

WHY AM I HERE?

Well here it is…my first blog on the Eagle website. So I thought I would use it to tell you a few things about me. Like, most people don’t think I look 50 years old. Maybe the youthful look is the DNA I got from my parents. Maybe this job keeps me young. But the fact is, I’m old enough to remember when most of the classic hits you hear on the Eagle were released.

I LOVE THIS MUSIC! Some of the songs I love because of the lyrics and what they mean. Some songs, it’s the music with the crunchin’ guitars and pounding drums that just hit me in the gut the right way. Other tunes resonate with me because they remind me of certain times in my life when a particular song was popular. And, I LOVE PLAYING THIS MUSIC FOR YOU! My friends say it sounds like I’m having fun on the radio. It’s true! I AM HAVING FUN, singing along with the songs, playing air guitar in the studio, and talking to our cool Eagle listeners. So when you hear me laughing, it’s genuine.

MY LIFE IS AN OPEN BOOK. I live my life on the radio. I’m just like you. I have a wife, kids, co-workers, bosses, bills and other issues I deal with on a daily bases. When you call and request a song to help pick you up, I UNDERSTAND WHY. I try really hard to let the listeners be a part of my afternoon show. LOCAL LISTENERS give my show a unique flavor. I want you to call and participate, make request, tell jokes, ask questions, and more. Active listeners make this a better station for everyone.

My wife’s name is Joy and she’s awesome. She’d rather watch Sports Center than the Bachelorette. She a has a “Celebrity Husband” list. The first two names on it are Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. She’s drives a Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn WITH a Hemi. YES, I’M A VERY LUCKY MAN. My son Josh is 21 and has left the nest. My step-daughter Jaclyn is still at home and rockin straight A’s at ASU. She’s also 21. I was born and raised in Helena, Arkansas. This is my second stay in Jonesboro. I was here for 10 years the first time. I’ve been back for about 9 years this time.

We also have 4 rescue dogs. YOU WILL HERE ALOT ABOUT ANIMAL RESCUE ON MY SHOW. It’s my passion. I think dogs are the most amazing creatures on Earth. No other animal on the planet has been so perfectly compatible with humans like K-9s. WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT THEM?

So to answer the question, “WHY AM I HERE”. The answer is…I don’t know. I guess the radio gods decided to give me chance to work in RADIO HEAVEN….an afternoon shift on a classic rock station…for a great broadcast company….Saga Broadcasting’s Jonesboro Radio Group.

MLB’s regular season enters its final 3 weeks. Here’s a look at the playoff picture and awards races

The 2025 season has produced a surprising show of parity through the first five months of the regular season.
